Please refer to the Thuro book #I;Oil Lighting; The Kerosene Era in
North America. The marriage Lamp is described and pictured. Also
refer to my web site for a picture. I have emailed the site address.

Apparently the book is now out of print and is getting difficult to
find; feel free to e-mail me and I can send you the description from
the book. Also the marriage (or wedding) lamp can be found, but may
take some searching and it will be expensive. (Starting at about
$1000) Hope this helps. -

The Ripley marriage lamp is not a scarce item, but much in demand
among collectors. One of the attractive challenges for the collectors
is that this lamp comes in various color combination (font, match
holder part, and base) and combinations of the top with different
base designs. Notable is also that a significant number of these
lamps have imperfections, aside from the missing cover for the match
holder. Ripley marriage lamps show up most often at auctions. For
instance, I noticed that one will be included in the estate auction
advertised by Fontaine's Auction Gallery in Pittsfield, MA for mid
October
1998.
