Juno Flame Speader

Juno Flame Speader by Steve Peterson

I have recently bought a nice embossed brass Juno #2 lamp. Someone
at some point and time had done an electrical conversion. Luckily
they did not damage any part of the lamp except that they had
tossed out the flame speader. I would like to know what the flame
speader looks like so if I find one I can put it aside so that I
can restore the lamp back to kerosene at a later date. Thanks -

Steve: Is the #2 the big store lamp? I'll look at my
accumulation in the shop later to see if I have an extra (and
I'm sure someone who reads your question will. I'd hope
someone will offer to send you one!). I'm reasonably sure the
FS is like the Rayo...thimble with a disk atop it. The store lamp
doesn't seem to have a disk like the Rochester. The table
lamp Juno restores well, and seems a better burner than the Rayo,
but is still nothing special for those used to an Aladdin!
I've never been able to restore a store lamp without
unacceptable smoking. :: Fil ::

The lamp in question is a table lamp with a heavy cast foot;
about the size of a Rayo lamp. I figure that I could use a Rayo
FS because the lamp socket that is currently in it fits in the
draft tube nicely like they do in the Rayo. Thanks again. -

Steve: There IS a specific FS for the table JUNO...I
didn't have one in the shop. One size is a perforated
thimble with a disk very near the top, another size in just a
thimble with a constricted "waist" (images are in
the reprinted Edw. Miller catalogue). As long as the disk is
marginally larger than the wick itself, it will spread the
flame, so I guess, if the shoe fits, burn it (awful mixed
metaphor, but clear!) :: Fil ::
