I recently purchased a lamp that has the following markings 18
followed by an o with the letter m inside the o,then 80. The lamp
is brass 18 in.tall give or take a few inches,it has a round base
with designs punched in(holes). The wick is round and the glass top
is 8 inches tall or so.

Dana: 'Fraid that's a bit sketchy as a description to
base an identification on! It seems you have a center draft
lamp (round wick, perforated holes in foot to provide air
passage)...there should be a clear air passage all the way
through the font (kerosene reservoir) to the combustion area,
which would likely have a flame spreader (thimble with disk
atop or around it?) in the center draft tube. I don't
recognize the "M in a circle with 1880" mark right
off. Could be Edw. Miller, whose logo was an M with a fancy
diamond-shaped surround. Where does the logo appear? Filler cap
and flame spreader top are usual locations. Is there any
marking atop the fount(in the flattish area around the burner)?
The "glass top" is the chimney, and not necessarily
key to identifying the lamp.
I'd guess the "1880" in the markings is part of
the trademark, and not the lamps date! I'll go look at my
spreader collection and see if I can do any better with
positive ident.

Hi Fil, I just recently got back from N. Idaho and went
digging for my first time.... found a treasure, I think. I
was up near Boulder City Ghost Town, and dug up an oil
lantern. It has very thick glass, small, and is put in an old
tin can of some kind, with cement... The name, Eagle is on
the metal top part. I guess I'm wondering if the people
used to do this so the lantern would not fall, and is there
any posible way of getting something like this out of the old
cement??? Looks like it is all in one piece. Curious Lisa
