oil lamp [INDEX: Plume & Atwood] by Jeanette Aronne
Posted: August 06, 1998 @ 10:24.
I recently purchased an old oil lamp, I know nothing about them,
there is a stamp on the bottom of the base which says np j or mp j
and a number 527, over where the flame would come out its stamped
royal with a patent number. Any info you could supply would be
greatly appreicated. Thank You, Jeanette

Jeanette: Well, one clue is identifiable! "Royal" on
the flame spreader indicates it is a "Royal" burner
(and probably fount) from Plume and Atwood Mfg. Co. . The mold or
item marks (the 'np or mp j 527') in the (likely cast
iron) foot might be an identifier to someone who has the specific
lamp, but I don't know enough about these markings to use
them as specific identifiers (and don't think of anyone who
does know!) The base of the lamp could have been sold by P and A,
or could be from anyone who purchased parts from P and A to use
for "their" lamps! It could identify ONLY the specific
foot involved.
If you can send an image, somebody might recognize the lamp.
