Does anyone know when John Scott made banquet lamps. The lamp in
question has "Made in England John Scott" on the double wick
turners.

Mr. Wilson: I'm guessing (limited personal knowledge of the finished
lamps, but I do have a working knowledge of the burner makers!) the
Duplex burner marked "John Scott" is a Hinks or Messenger that was
branded for a customer, but will toss this to our friends across the
big pond for an answer. Us Yanks are going to have to learn about
these UK lamps, as they are coming to the States in increasing
numbers in container loads of English household goods to be sold as
antiques (some of them ARE...if you have a shop around that buys
these "loads", cultivate them! There might just be a treasure among
the
furniture!)

Hinks did not often make their lamps with another name - would say it
is most likely to be Sherwoods - but these burners were made by the
million and if you bought enough, any ironmonger could have his name
put on them for re-sale in his shop - I would think that is the most
likely answer. Hinks were high quality makers and proud of it, so
were the original Messengers and Silbers
