Sir,
I have tried everything to find out more about this lamp I just
recently
purchased.
It's a two section, cylindrical, solid brass miners lamp. It is
approximately 11 inches tall and has a tin or alluminum reflective
shield on
the front.
The man I bought it off of said it was his grandfathers used back in
the
gold mining days of Honduras. So this leads me to believe that it's
at
least 80 years old.
I am able to make out the words "Justrite" and "Made in the USA".
Can you tell me anything about this lamp?
Thank you
Daniel F. Hoyt

Daniel: What I know about Miner's lamps could be engraved on a
pinhead! I own one from England (actually Wales)...it is a
beautifully constructed piece of art. The last US-made one I played
with defied disassembly, as it featured "fool proof" disassembly and
filling, to prevent the miners from taking it apart in the mines,
possibly causing a fire or explosion.
The closest we've come to Miners Lamps so far on this page is the
Question about Sir Humphrey Davy, who invented them! I'll leave the
Guild or other browsers to have a go at this one! :: Fil
