Hello. I´m writing to you from Iceland in the hope that you can help me.I have a very old Kosmos oil lamp, of the type you hang on a wall. It is from my grandmother and very dear to me. In a recent accident it fell on the floor and the oil bottle (font) broke. The brass reflector, the bracket-holder for the bottle, the burner and the chimney are OK. I have been looking for a clear glass font for a lamp like this but haven´t found any. The best match so far is the font from a 10" line Aladdin wall mounted oil lamp. The Aladdin font fits into the holder below the brass reflector but the problem is that my old Kosmos burner does not fit into the Aladdin collar on the font and then all the new Aladdin fonts for the wall mounted lamps which I have found here in Iceland are green and not clear glass. Now I want to ask your advice. Is it possible to find a Kosmos fonts with the right collar somewhere? Do you have any of that kind? If not, is it possible to get a clear glass font without any collar so I could simply remove the remains of the glass from my old Kosmos collar and have that fitted onto the new font? Can I perhaps buy a new Aladdin 10" line font without the collar? I have done some research into Kosmos lamps and possibilities for getting a new font and fit the old collar to that font. I need a clear glass font with a "waist" for wall bracket (open ring type). I have seen new Aladdin fonts made from green glass which almost fit perfectly (the collar is ca. 1 mm for wide for the Kosmos burner). If I can get hold of such a font, made from clear glass and WITHOUT THE COLLAR I think my problem would be solved. Here is a description:The font should be ca. 9 - 10 cm in diameter (3.5 inches) where the holder "embraces" the bottle. Above and below this "waist" in the font the font should be ca 11 cm in diameter (4.4 inches). The old brass collar is ca. 3.2 till 3.3 cm in diameter inside where the burner fits into it (1.28 inches). It is ca. 4.9 cm (ca 2 inches) in diameter on the outside. It is just 1.3 cm or ca 1/2 inch high and widens out at the bottom to ca. 5.5 cm in diameter (2.167 inches). Any advice or contact addresses? During my research I have found two webpages which actually have pictures of a 14" Kosmos burner (I think mine is 10 line and thus a bit smaller)[ALL Web sites listed are commercial sites, and so have been deleted], a picture of a collar which is said to fit 14"' Kosmos burner, a picture of a Kosmos chimney, (and) Kosmos wicks for burners. [Also] a reference to Patronne lamp which is said to have a Kosmos burner.
Does anyone have an idea whether this Kosmos company still exists?

Arnar: PLEASE when you send E-Mail, set your browser's mail program to SCROLL the message! Trying to read and copy one endless line of text is difficult and annoying. I hope my editing of your question left the meaning intact. This is an awfully long and detailed request! I hope it's length doesn't deter readers. My basic reply is this: Since you have already identified several sources for Kosmos parts, why are you writing The Guild? We are NOT a commercial organization at all. There are still 6, 8, 10, 14 and 15''' Kosmos burners made in
France,
with wicks collars and chimneys available for each size. If you do
take
the brass collar off an Aladdin font (all the glass fonts have a
2.0625"
collar fitter), you will have a much too big hole for the 10'''
Kronos.
There never was an adaptor made to my knowledge; you might be able to
get a machinist to turn you one from brass.
Perhaps some one that reads this will be able to help you more.

Kronos?? 10"' burner? I think here are two burners mixing with each other.
[Anton continues:] The first (and oldest) the KOSMOS burner and second the KRONOS burner. The Kosmos burner was patented in the UK as early as 1865 by Emil Wild and Wilhelm Wessel (UK 1865-No.2024) from Berlin in Germany. They used since 1875 the Trade Mark: W&W **KOSMOS** on the button of the burner (and a drawing of two wings etc.). In 1895 -No.2071 it changed to W&W KOSMOS.
In 1899 a other German company, "Brokelmann, Jäger & Co." from Neheim a/d Ruhr, took over this trade mark and changed it into KOSMOSBRENNER. This company, later named "Brokelmann, Jäger and Büsse", made this kind of burners (and other burners) until a couple of years ago. Wild & Wessel also used the Trade Mark "KRONOS" for kerosene burners and lamps. (German TM. 1899-No.39205). In 1909 Hugo Schneider from Leipzig-Paunsdorf, Germany granted the Trade Mark "KRONOS" (TM 1909-No.120168). It was used for mantle lamps and burners. The same TM (and last of Hugo Schneider) in 1940 -No.524761.
I hope this information helps a little bit about German burners and companies. As far as I know R. Ditmar from Vienna did NOT use the trade mark KRONOS. Their TM was (since 1875) R.DITMAR WIEN together with a drawing of a wing and the sun around a wheel. They also used several other TM's like ASTRALLAMPE (1895),RADIOSUS (1904 and MAXIM (1931) etc.
If you have other and more information about these subjests please
let me know. (and please do not mind my bad English).
